The
Search Engine group conducts research into the large-scale
storage and access of information in the form of documents,
text, and multimedia. Research topics include compression, algorithms
for information retrieval, genetic databases,
databases for large-alphabet languages, indexing high-dimensional
data, hashing for large datasets, and pattern matching.
The Search Engine group has developed significant new technologies for
information retrieval. These are embodied in the SEG public-domain
search engine, which will be available soon from this website.
These techniques, which include advanced compression
methods and high-performance indexing, have also been adopted
for applications such as the major Web search engines.
